In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Broadmoor Golf Course emerged as a shining example of resilience and innovation. The course, located off Airport Road near I-26, was devastated by the storm, with the clubhouse flooded and the entire course covered in 6 to 18 inches of mud and silt. However, under the leadership of Zeke Cooper, president and CEO of DreamCatcher Hotels, the course was transformed into something better than it had ever been. Cooper's vision was to create a course that Western North Carolina had never seen before, and he achieved this through a combination of hard work, hope, and a whole lot of faith and prayer. The total investment exceeded $18 million, funded by a combination of insurance proceeds and the company's own investment. The course was completely renovated, with new greens, bunkers, and fairways, and the driving range was expanded and equipped with TopTracer technology. The new course is designed to be fun and enjoyable for golfers of every skill level. Meanwhile, the Asheville Municipal Golf Course, located on Swannanoa River Road, has been transformed into a disc golf course while the city works on restoring the course through FEMA Public Assistance funding. The front nine of the course, which flooded badly during Helene, has been put to use as a disc golf course, with mowed pathways and baskets throughout the area. The city is currently in the 30 percent design mark for the renovation project, and the front nine is expected to reopen in 2028. The back nine of the course remains open for ball golf, providing a temporary solution for golfers while the city works on restoring the course to its former glory.
